Looking for a way to stand up for yourself? Parents, are you looking for a way for your child to have some discipline in their life or maybe a way to be able to protect their self just in case? Have you ever thought about getting into martial arts? It is a great way to learn self-defense, respect and discipline. There are many different arts to choose from. You could get into Karate, Taekwondo, Jiu Jitsu or many others. Being a long time practitioner or martial arts I have seen peoples attitudes (from children to adults) change through training martial arts. If you are the one being bullied it can teach you self-defense techniques and the ability to avoid fighting at all cost. It can give you increased self-confidence to diffuse a situation, which might make a bully stop picking on you all together. As Rener Gracie (a creator of the Gracie BullyProof program) said, “fight fire with water.” Martial arts can also change a bully’s life in positive ways. You might ask yourself; won’t this just give the bully more weapons to pick on people? Not necessarily. Maybe the bully is lacking discipline at home or lacking a sense of belonging somewhere. Getting involved in martial arts can change this all together. You can become part of a family with structure and rules. Make the change today! Find a local dojo in your area by simply “googling” martial arts in your area. It will change your life forever.
You are not alone! Sometimes it might feel like you are the only one, but I promise you that you are not. Unfortunately, you are not the only one being bullied. Every year there are over 2,000,000 students who are being bullied. Over 150,000 students miss school everyday for fear of being bullied. Do not feel that you are in this war alone. Talk to your parents, talk to your teachers. Do not be afraid to look for help. Do not think that there is something wrong with you because you are being bullied. More than likely the bully is the one with the problem. They might be self-conscious about their own appearance or have problems at home that they are taking out on you. Not that it is ok, but to stop and think about what is wrong with them might help you cope with being bullied. Stay strong! I know it is easier said than done, but I promise it will get better.
